PRESS RELEASES
Event at the Ministry of Justice: “Mediation in Greece”.

At the Ministry of Justice on 17 September 2025, we had the honor of hosting the presentation of the new book published by diaNEOsis and OPEMED, entitled “Mediation in Greece.”

The event was addressed by the Minister of Justice, Mr. Georgios Floridis, the Deputy Minister, Mr. Ioannis Bougas, the former Prime Minister, Mr. Panagiotis Pikrammenos, the President of OPEMED, Mr. Konstantinos Menoudakos, and the General Director of diaNEOsis, Mr. Dionysis Nikolaou.

In the discussion panel that followed, with Ms. Faye Makandasi, Research Director of diaNEOsis, and Mr. Nikolaos Kanellopoulos, Secretary General of OPEMED, the competent Special Secretary for Alternative Dispute Resolution, Ms. Olympia Anastasopoulou, presented the work carried out to date by the newly established Special Secretariat, which is being developed on three levels:

  • Organizational, with an emphasis on the effective supervision of the Central Mediation Committee, the prompt and daily processing of submitted requests, and the oversight of Certified Mediation Centers.
  • Financial, funded by the Recovery and Resilience Facility, with two projects currently underway concerning the redesign of the Mediation Information System and the training of trainee lawyers, lawyers, and accredited mediators.
  • Legislative, involving the extension of the institution of cadastral mediation to disputes in which the defendant is the State, local authorities (OTAs), and legal entities governed by public law, as well as the introduction of ADR courses at the National School of Judges, and, of course, the drafting of the forthcoming Code of Alternative Dispute Resolution, which is intended to serve as a comprehensive and functional tool for the rational and swift settlement of disputes.

The dissemination of mediation as an institution was highlighted as a critical priority, with reference to statistical data demonstrating a significant increase in the filing of successful mediation settlement records with Courts of First Instance across the country, reflecting a steadily upward trajectory of the institution in areas of high social and economic importance.
